Laptop program

Students with computersThe Rochester Area Youth Tech Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit and our goal is for all students to have access to the tools of the 21st century. We have two main programs: laptops and wifi hotspots.

Working with the counselors at each high school, students that are working hard at school can apply to receive a refurbished laptop at no charge.

In addition, high school students that do not have access to the internet at home can check out a T-Mobile Wifi Hotspot from the school library. These are monitored by the school district for appropriate usage.

If you need either of these services, please contact your school counselor. If you receive free or reduced-fee school lunches, you can apply for a computer from the Ability Building Center.

Our greatest need is for financing ongoing projects, such as wifi and laptop checkout from school libraries. You may choose to direct your donation towards a specific project or let us apply it to the area with the most immediate need.

Please consider sponsoring a hotspot and giving a student access to the internet for just $12 per month. Advertising enquiries welcome.

We also welcome the following hardware donations:

  • Working laptops built since the year 2000 - if it doesn't include a power cord, please consider a $10 donation so we can purchase one. We will wipe the hard drive.
  • USB Thumb Drives sized 4 GB or more
  • Raspberry pi (version 3+)
  • Arduinos (any kind)
  • Working 3d printers
  • Other gently-used maker-space hardware.

Donations can be dropped off at Rochester CTECH - 2130 Collegeview Road SE, Rochester, MN 55904 or any Rochester Public High School main office.

If you're not sure, please feel free to contact us.
